To a New Year

So the Holidays are over. Some years I am a little sad and others I am not at all. This year I was not at all sad they were gone. Overall Christmas went well. Christmas Eve was good with my family but odd. Dad, Billy, me, sister Ali, sister Leah, and her beau Giff, then my nephew Zach, and B’s dad made up the crew for that night. I made chilli which I thought was great, I tried to make a mild one for Billy which I guess wasn’t mild enough. I tried, I thought the spicy one I made was mild but I guess not cause people were sniffling. I need to work on my mild chilli for those that don’t like spicy like me. It was weird that my brothers and step-mom had to work. There weren’t decorations so really it seemed more like a casual get together than Christmas but all in all it went over smoothly. We were home by 9 which was nice, gave us plenty of sleep to prepare for all the travels on Christmas day.

Christmas day we got up and got ready, no presents so no morning coffee or pastries. We left for B’s mom’s house and had breakfast there. This was one of the better years at their house, low tension. I did miss having B’s grandpa around though, he was always a pleasant addition to Christmas at his moms. I did feel bad for not having any presents for them though cause they got us so much. I got these really cute Italian style serving dishes that I loved… I will try to post a photo soon.

Then it was off to B’s grandma’s house (his dad’s side of the family). B wanted to drive the car and it was an beautiful white Christmas outside but I was nervous we wouldn’t make it out of his mom’s driveway to his grandmas, but B is a good driver and we made it safe and sound. B’s grandma always makes good food so we had the usual ham, potatoes, rolls, and wine there. Went through the stalking and watched the kids run around. This of course is my least favorite part of the day cause, blah, not a big fan of kids. They were cute I guess but I was ready to go. So was Dinky, there is a not nice person there that is sometimes mean to Dinky and with all the people protecting her becomes a challenge, I think him and the tons of traveling and people wore her out completely. Both the dogs were wonderful at all the houses though.

Once we were done there we headed to my aunts house, not far from the grandmas which was nice. Stayed there for a short while and had a peaceful conversation with my aunt and grandma. No tensions there, no stress, and no extra people or kids. It was a good ending to the busy day.

The roads weren’t too bad going home cause lots of people drove throughout the day but our street was a mess. I bet we got at least a foot of snow Christmas day. According to the news it was the most snow we have gotten on Christmas day since they started recording that type of information.

Christmas day I tried to call one of my favorite people, Lisa, in Texas to have a quick Christmas chat with her. I was dissapointed not to hear her voice and her cheerful attitude but I was also realived because my mom was probably there and I was a bit nervous about that. I don’t know why cause she never wants to talk with me anyways, I guess it just the aticipation or hope of her one day actually wanting to speak with me. I don’t know what to say to someone who wanted nothing to do with me, it is an odd feeling having a mom that doesn’t care. I for some reason can’t help but thinking about that every time I call my aunt because I know my mom is so close to her. This year I was not upset though, I got to see my dad and the normal traditions proceeded so life was good.

I do hope one day Billy and I can start our own traditions with our children and maybe have Christmas at our house without all the travels, maybe have people come to us….

New Years was also pretty uneventful. Billy, our friend Joseph and I went to the Movie Tavern. A place you go and order drinks, dinner, and dessert while watching a new release movie. It is great fun, or should be. We got HORRIBLE service, our waitress was nice but the kitchen lost our food order and we ended up having to cancel it cause the movie was almost over. We also order beers and they brought the wrong ones, took 1 1/2 hours to get the right beers then I only had about 15 minutes to down a 38oz “tanker”. Wow, thats a lot of beer in 15 minutes :)

We saw AVPR, it was great but B was so stressed about us being the only ones in the theater without food I don’t think he enjoyed himself like he should have been able to. I did speak with a manager and got free movies and beers for next time so we will only have to buy dinner. Hopefully the service will be better.

Anyways… our night wasn’t ruined but we had to order pizza instead of normal dinner food which I was looking forward to. We played games and stayed up till about 2 and then went to bed. Had dad and mom over for dinner that night and relaxed the rest of the time. All in all it was a very good week off work and school.

When it wasn’t a holiday we had B’s dad staying with us. He had surgery and needed to not be alone so I sat with him for a couple days. It was nice to be there for him but I was glad to have the 31st all to myself with nothing to do. It was the only day that happened during the whole break :) B’s dad did buy us a new fridge for Christmas which was SUPER nice, our other fridge was beyond Jenky. It was way too much for him to buy for us but much appreciated. All our food fits in the fridge now and there are actually shelves in the freezer, neat!

So, I think that wraps up our days off and the holiday. I hope everyone else had a great holiday and a day or two to relax. Here’s to another year!
